I’ve been here ten years now. Left Iowa in 2012 and always thought something would bring me back, but nothing did. Lost a lot by not making better plans. Lost houses, everything I had in storage…in the long run, who cares? Not even me.
Here’s what the vegetation looks like around Chiang Mai.
I’ve been staying up here for a week now, and I still haven’t grown too accustomed to the plant life in people’s gardens to miss the beauty. It’s not tropical, it’s desert. Desert plants, probably native to Mexico, are what are being cultivated up here, and they’re weirdly striking compared to the tropical plants I’m used to seeing in Thailand.
These are shots of foliage taken over the last two days from motor scooter rides in the hills around Chiang Mai. Who would have thought I would end up lusting after vegetation in my later years?
